Northern State University

Founded in 1901, Northern State University located in Aberdeen, SD, provides students with a transformative education. The Northern Experience emphasizes quality academic programs, personalized attention, strong student support, and accessibility. Northern proudly offers nationally accredited academic programs in Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, Sport Sciences, Psychology and Counseling, and Fine Arts. Northern offers more than a dozen pre-professional programs in the health sciences and is launching a Nursing program in fall 2025 (pending HLC approval). Northern and the community of Aberdeen, South Dakota, partner to foster a safe, inviting and supportive community; outdoor recreational opportunities; diverse social and cultural events; and experiential learning, including paid internships. The Northern Innovation and Startup Center hosts free workshops and pitch competitions to foster entrepreneurship among Northern’s approximately 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
