Student and Graduate Testimonials
Here's what students and graduates are saying about WICHE's Student Exchange Programs
"I got great grades in high school, and I participated in a program that allowed me to receive my associate's degree with my high school diploma. I was the first one to achieve that at my high school, so I figured getting a scholarship somewhere would be no problem. But the only scholarship I got was based on academics; it was small and only applied to one semester. WUE, on the other hand, cut my tuition in half! Without it I would have had to move back home and go to a school that did not have my preferred major. I am very thankful for WUE!"
— Jessica, Colorado resident, Class of 2012, University of Utah, Philosophy major, Psychology minor
"WUE made dream come true: a future career in geological engineering! WUE has been a huge help financially."
— Melissa, Colorado resident, Class of 2015, Montana Tech, Geological Engineering
"Although I have been granted funding (tuition waiver) for two of the three semesters I have had so far here at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, I know that if I am not granted funding I can still afford to stay here and pay tuition. I am the type of student who cannot afford out-of-state (or private), tuition and WUE has allowed me to study in a program that is nationally competitive at a reduced price! It's wonderful."
— Hannah, Arizona resident, Class of 2012, University of Hawaii at Manoa, Second Language Studies
"Without WUE I would not be able to attend Colorado State University. WUE has been of essential assistance in my ability to afford my education. I love attending CSU and know I would not be able to do it without WUE."
— Amy, California resident, Class of 2013, Colorado State University, Business Marketing
"WUE has gifted me with independence, wisdom, and happiness, and I will be forever grateful for the rest of my life. WUE took me to Fort Collins to attend Colorado State University. It was no more than a fantasy when I applied: I knew my family (with four students) could not afford out-of-state tuition. WUE was the sole factor that flew me over the Rocky Mountains to attend my dream university and provided the opportunity to experience life. My time in Colorado has opened my eyes to the world and changed my fuzzy academic path into a distinct and inspired highway to success. I have WUE to thank for that!"
— Sarah, Oregon resident, Class of 2013, Colorado State University, Liberal Arts
"I wanted to attend a maritime academy to become a licensed ship officer, but my home state of Washington doesn’t offer such a program. WUE allowed me to attend California Maritime Academy and pay reduced tuition, taking a lot of financial stress off my parents. I’m now also a mechanical engineering major; this will be a great skill set to have and should make me very competitive in the workforce. I could not have considered investing the extra time required for this if I hadn’t received the WUE discount."
— Michael, Washington resident, Class of 2012, California Maritime Academy, Mechanical Engineering
"Not only did WUE give me the opportunity to attend college, it also allowed me to experience the beautiful state of Colorado. Without receiving this gift, I would not have been able to attend the college that was the best fit for me. Attending Colorado State University forced me out of my comfort zone and helped me grow as a person, as well as allowing me to learn about the many professional options I could choose from. Now I am on my way to becoming a physician's assistant; and I can say that because of the experiences I have had here in Colorado, I am confident that this is the perfect profession for me. I am so thankful for the opportunity the WICHE has given me; without it I would not be where I am today."
— Megan, Arizona resident, Class of 2011, Colorado State University, Health and Exercise Science (Sports Medicine)
"Without WUE I would never have been able to support myself financially at Colorado State University, where I am currently a sophomore earning a degree in fish, wildlife, and conservation biology. CSU is recognized nationally for its wildlife biology program (my concentration). Research and stewardship of our natural world are my passions in life, and being able to attend a school with a program that so perfectly meets my needs and interests is a dream come true, not to mention a large step in the right direction. Not only does CSU provide me with education in the classroom, but I have enjoyed a variety of networking and research opportunities, both in the laboratory and in the field. None of this would have been possible without WUE. I owe my future career to you."
— Anna, New Mexico resident, Class of 2013, Colorado State University, Fish, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology
"Without WUE I would not be where I am today. My parents wouldn't have been able to afford CSU, so therefore I would not have been able to attend. I am very grateful for this program. I love CSU and am so glad that I had the opportunity to attend this fine school, thanks to WUE."
— Sydney, California resident, Class of 2014, Colorado State University, Civil Engineering
"WUE has made attending my choice school possible, enabling me to attend a university that offers the programs and postgraduate opportunities I need. WUE has helped me bring my dream of becoming a large animal veterinarian one step closer. It helps me to pay for the education required to become a professional in my chosen field and do the best possible job in that field."
— Taryn, California resident, Class of 2014, Colorado State University, Microbiology
"WUE has helped me to achieve my academic goals by allowing me to study out of state at a more reasonable price. Part of the college experience for me has been the tremendous shift to an entirely different location. It has helped me to grow as a person. I am very grateful to WUE, as it has made attending Colorado State University more realizable for me."
— Christopher, California resident, Class of 2011, Colorado State University, Natural Resource Recreation & Tourism: Concentration on Global Tourism
"WUE helped to decrease the cost of tuition at Colorado State University, so that I am basically paying the same as in-state tuition. Colorado has one of the highest costs for higher education, but CSU has one of the top veterinarian schools in the country. Utah did not have a direct veterinary program or the other benefits of CSU. By being able to attend CSU as an undergraduate, I know that what I am learning gives me a better chance to acheive my dream of becoming an exotic animal veterinarian! I am so grateful for the help that WUE has given me, and I hope the program continues so that others are able to achieve their dreams as well!"
— Annie, Utah resident, Class of 2010, Colorado State University, Biological Sciences
"I came to Colorado State because I am interested in veterinary medicine; Idaho does not have a vet school. WUE helped me to be able to afford a quality education in the my field of interest."
— Danielle, Idaho resident, Class of 2013, Colorado State University, Biological Science
"Without the Western Undergraduate Exchange, it would have been impossible for me to pursue an education at Colorado State University. The out-of-state tuition is too high, and my family's finances are insufficient to pay it. WUE allowed me to go the university of my choice. I am currently a freshman studying at CSU and very grateful to WUE for making it possible for me to be here. I hope that our legislators will continue to support WICHE and allow students like me to attend the institutions of their choice."
— Ian, resident, Class of 2014, Colorado State University,
"As a Montana resident, I could have stayed in state to study wildlife biology, but the state's lack of a veterinary school would have left me with few opportunities to gain the knowledge and experience I need to become a wildlife veterinarian. I preferred going to a college that had both of these options available to me. This, of course, raised the price of a college education. With WUE my college payments are now on a level that my mother and I can afford, and I can now access coursework and professionals that will prepare me for both wildlife management and veterinary medicine."
— Allyson, Montana resident, Class of 2014, Colorado State University, Wildlife Biology
