Professional Student Exchange Program (PSEP)

Frequently Asked Questions about PSEP

WICHE's Professional Student Exchange Program (PSEP) enables students in 10 western states to enroll in selected out-of-state professional healthcare programs and pay reduced tuition. States typically fund students to enroll through PSEP if a professional healthcare program is not available at one of their in-state public institutions.

Benefits

Students enrolled through PSEP pay reduced tuition. A student's home state pays a "support fee" to the enrolling school to reduce the cost of the student's education. Most students enrolled in public programs pay resident tuition; if the support fee does not cover the difference between resident and nonresident tuition, they may pay slightly more. Students enrolled in private programs pay the balance of private tuition minus the support fee. Some fields (primarily veterinary medicine) and programs offer preferential admission to WICHE certified applicants.

See the list below for the field(s) for which each "sending" state supports students. State support and program participation affecting students are subject to change by legislative or administrative action. The number of students supported by each state is determined through state legislative appropriations.

WRGP offers more than 380 distinctive high quality programs, many of which are in the health professions.

Professional Healthcare Fields Support, By State

See the chart below to determine if your state supports students through WICHE’s PSEP in your field of study. Please note that residents of California, CNMI, Idaho, Oregon, South Dakota and Washington are not eligible to enroll through PSEP. However, many healthcare programs in some of these states do enroll (receive) WICHE PSEP students from other WICHE states.

Typically, a state will support its residents through PSEP in fields of study when a state-funded program is not available to its residents. If your state does not have a professional program available in your field and is not listed below as using WICHE’s PSEP, your state may have other options for professional education in your field of study. Contact your State Certifying Officer directly for more information.
