Objectives:
Jane Adams, Ph.D. is the Executive Director of Keys for Networking, Inc.,
the Kansas affiliate of the Federation of Families for Children's Mental
Health, a USDOE designated Parent Information and Resource Center (PIRC),
and an OSEP designated Community Parent Resource Center (CPRC). In Kansas,
Dr. Adams serves on the Governor's Mental Health Planning Council and
co-chairs the Subcommittee on Transformation.
Nationally, Dr. Adams serves on the SAMHSA and University of Portland sponsored
Wraparound Advisory Initiative, the University of South Florida Family
Empowerment Project Advisory Board, and the Columbia University National
Advisory Board for the Parent Engagement and Family Based Services. She is
also a member of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network Advisory Board.
Dr. Adams is the past president of the Federation of Families for Children's
Mental Health.
As director of Keys for Networking since 1994, Dr. Adams was instrumental in
securing the 1997 Medicaid Home- and Community-based Services waiver for
Kansas children with severe emotional disabilities. With her leadership
Keys for Networking has developed a national model of targeted parent
assistance, featured in the 2006 Winter edition of Focal Point. She
annually mobilizes a Kansas network of families to contact their legislators
with such initiatives as securing mental health parity, Healthwave coverage
at 200% of the poverty level, and funding for a statewide mental health
system of care for children and their families.
Dr. Adams served as an Associate Professor of Special Education in Learning
Disabilities and Behavior Disorders at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas
and as principal/special education director of Kansas' largest institution
for 200 adjudicated male juvenile offenders. She received her Master's and
Ph.D. from Kansas State University, and her Bachelor's degree from MaryMount
College in 1969.
